Bugs and Beetles(2)

Curriculum

Tell me and I’ll forget, show me and I may remember, involve me and I’ll understand
Chinese proverb

The Bugs and Beetles programme aims to develop the whole child, addressing all areas of development; social, emotional, physical and intellectual. Young children learn by doing. It is therefore important to create a stimulating environment which will encourage a child to take part with enthusiasm.

A strong focus is placed on gross motor development. We have a wide variety of climbing, crawling, swinging and balancing equipment. We have a structured gross motor lesson every day which include ball skills, obstacle courses and rhythmic movements.

We also concentrate on fine motor and intellectual development during our everyday perceptual session through activities such as puzzle building, threading, play dough, pegboards, geostack, logiblocks, lego, block building etc.

We realise the importance of skills in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths in our children's future and have included STEAM concepts and activities in our Curriculum.

Our day starts with our morning ring where we discuss our weekly theme and introduce new vocabulary. Attention is given to counting, days of the week, months, weather, colours, numeracy concepts (big/small, more/less etc.), shapes and rhymes.

We also have a music lesson everyday where our children get exposed to classical music and different music instruments. Dancing, playing musical instruments, movement and sing-along to well known kid’s songs form part of this lesson.

We understand the importance of sensory exposure and we have a big, inviting sandpit for everyday play. We have 2 additional tactile lessons a week where children get to play with different seeds, gellybaff, jelly, porridge, mud, water etc.

Art is done daily which entails painting, construction and creative activities.
